Conditional love (Chapter 2)

Life in gashoma was worth living to Macho and Tagoso. They enjoyed the company of Tafita and Zainy so dearly. Macho loved Tafita and took her the way she was, though at times he wondered why she had to be in such an unpleasant condition. At last, he finally accepted her wholeheartedly. On the other hand, Zainy’s love for Tagoso was surprisingly true. She adored him so much and loved him from the depth of her heart. They all were happy and lived in unity as close friends with great plans for the future. The city was such a beautiful one and they took maximum advantage of their possessions and it was so lovely and great to be home.

One cool afternoon in Mr. Unan’s house, Tafita and Zainy were having a close discussion in the sitting room when Mr. Unan walked in to join them. They chatted for long until Zainy started talking of how she loved Tagoso so much that she could do anything to keep him. It was then, that Mr. Unan told her who her boyfriend really was. He told her of his humble background, how he went to college on scholarship and so on. Zainy was so disappointed because she thought Tagoso was of a rich family too. She confronted Tagoso and threatened to quit the relationship, which she eventually did. Even when Tagoso pleaded, explained and promised to take absolute care of her in the nearest future. She remained adamant and maintained that she wouldn’t be patient enough to wait for such a period of time.

Tagoso pleaded with Zainy to accept him based on who he really was to no avail. No day would pass without Tagoso meeting Zainy just to make sure their relationship continued, but Zainy had already lost interest in him due to her selfish quest of having a rich lover. The amazing part of the whole situation was that Zainy still loved Tagoso but refused to be with him because he had no riches. At this point, Tagoso became offended and refused to beg Zainy again. Though, deep inside he still loved her, but decided not to see her again because what she wanted in a man was material things and not love. Zainy’s mother was so angry when she noticed that Tagoso was no longer coming to visit any more, so she was not happy with Zainy for making such a lousy decision.

It was quite unfortunate that it got to a time when Macho started developing a second thought about his relationship with Tafita. He no longer felt the same love when ever they were together. Sometimes, it becomes so clear that Tafita would ask to know what the matter was and his response would always be that his mood has nothing to do with them, but in his heart, he was no more interested in Tafita. He directed his attention to Zainy and suddenly fell for her seduction. Since she was no longer with Tagoso, she coveted Macho and used every means available to seduce Macho. Tafita wasn’t aware of what was happening between Macho and Zainy; she was so happy, thinking that everything was fine and expected her wedding with Macho with utmost desire.

On the wedding day, everybody, were gathered in the church. Tafita had also arrived, but stayed in the car because Macho had not arrived and he was no where to be found. While everybody was filled with anxiety, Macho was in Zainy’s house, waiting for her to pack so that they could run away together as earlier planned. Efforts were made by neighbors to stop them but it appeared they had already made up their mind. Everyone became so curious to know what was keeping the bridegroom. Tafita became so confused while she wondered why Tagoso came alone instead of coming along with Macho. Suddenly, the whole place was filled with disorder. Tagoso was still thinking of the situation when he heard from one of the neighbors that Macho was about running away with Zainy. He became so confused, but still had the courage to advice everyone to keep the sad news a secret from Tafita. He went to confront Macho but was late because he met their absence as he reached Zainy’s house. At last everybody left because the wedding was cancelled. Tafita was filled with sorrow, while Tagosos consoled her.
