Conditional love (Chapter 3)

The proposed wedding between Macho and Tafita attracted so many dignitaries across Gashoma. This also contributed to the uproar when the wedding eventually went down the drain. Friends and family relatives visited Tagosa and Tafita respectively in their homes to calm them down and they also gave them advice that would help them in the future. At that given period it was not easy; Tatifa refused to eat. Even when her maid would try to persuade her, she would out of respect she had for the elderly woman, eat just so little; a quantity that wouldn’t sustain her for the whole day. She was so heartbroken and always wondered why such could be happening to her.

Tagoso on the other side tried as much as possible to calm Tafita whenever he visited her, but failed to calm himself first. Most times, after leaving Tatifa he would go straight to a bar; get drunk and finally stagger home. This continued daily in the same manner for quite some time until it eventually affected his job. He could not concentrate due to the emotionally trauma. As the head surgeon in his department, he couldn’t perform his duties efficiently; instead there were complications which almost took a patient’s life. After much caution, he was relieved of his job and that added more sorrow. Life seemed to be so frustrating to him but in all, he had good friends who where always by his side to advise and help him.

Two months later, it appeared the whole of Gashoma was recovering from the shock. The tragic experience witnessed on that wedding day was so disappointing. Tagoso was virtually always with Tafita consoling her and trying as much as possible to make her happy again. At least all she needed at that pathetic and heartbroken period is just a friend that would be there for her and that was exactly what Tagoso offered her. Subsequently, Tafita gradually tried to be happy again, though it wasn’t easy for her.

While Tagoso and Tafita were on the unhappy side, Macho and Zainy were busy enjoying themselves in another city outside Gashoma where they lodged in one of the most expensive hotels in the city. Zainy was so happy to finally be with Macho, since all she cared about was the money; she was so comfortable at the hotel and wished they remained in the hotel for quite a long time. She never really loved macho; she was just attracted to him because of his riches. She never really cared about the consequence of her selfish actions.

Macho was so disappointing; he developed sudden interest in Zainy and eventually fell in love with her. He never thought about the tragic experience he had caused his best and childhood friend; Tagoso, then to talk about his proclaimed girlfriend and wife to be; Tafita. He was so blindly in love with Zainy and never imagined that she could be using him to meet her selfish desire. It was quite unfortunate to witness such betrayal of friendship. Zainy never had any atom of remorse for what she caused her best friend. She did not regret that she betrayed the one person who contributed to what she became in life. So, while she was busy enjoying herself with Macho. Her best friend was in agony. What a world.
