Love at first sight (Chapter 1)

A new pastor named John was transferred to my station. He has a family of three; himself, his wife and daughter; Mary. Mary was so beautiful to behold and every man would wish to be with her at first sight. I was initially captivated by what I saw, but on a second thought, I decided to kill that illusion. After all, I wasn’t ready for such, at that time for I was recovering from a heart break. When people say that love hurts, I tend to wonder what they mean by that statement until I experienced it. It was a tragic moment. I wouldn’t like to recall. So I felt that approaching the pastor’s daughter would be such a bad idea, though I struggled so much to keep her off my mind.

It was a week since my new pastor arrived and the thought of having Mary as my girlfriend was still there in my mind. But little did I know that my cousin brother; Paul, was madly interested in Mary. He had his eyes on her since the very first day he saw her. He told me how much he loved her. At this point, Paul had already talked to Mary, knew her name and got her phone number. Within the first two weeks of their meeting, they were chatting on phone, until they finally had a date. The visited one the most happening restaurants in my neighborhood where they had a quality time. Throughout that evening, my ears where filled with all that happened between Paul and Mary. Paul was so excited as he told me the story of his date with Mary and I was happy for him. At least “ it’s good to love some one who loves you back ”, I told him.

Paul will always talk about Mary as if they had been together for years. He would visit Mary just to watch her do her domestic activities, keep her company with out minding how long it takes. And after which, he will come home to tell me all that happened. He would tell me how interesting she is to be with, how efficiently she goes about her household chores. Infant, he carries Mary on high shoulders as if she was his whole world. The interesting part of the whole thing was the fact that, at that stage of their relationship they were yet to have a kiss. Isn’t that funny? Mary denies Paul a kiss each time he asked for it. She would tell him to be patient and wait for the right time and I wondered when the right time would be.
